Travel the Ohio River in Adams County
The Ohio River is steeped in History. During the founding of the United States the Ohio River was an artery of passage for the first settlers. It later became a soulful boundary between north and south. Escaped slaves crossed the Ohio River into Adams County and continued their arduous journey on the Underground Railroad into Canada. Today the Ohio River is a home for the hardy barge operators who spend weeks on end delivering their commodities from one port to the next. The best part is the portion of the Ohio River between Ohio Brush Creek and Portsmouth - it
looks as wild and beautiful as what the first settlers saw generations
ago.
